How to Play enclose.horse

The Goal

Build a pen around the horse by placing walls on the grid. Click or tap on a grass (green) tile to place a wall. Each enclosed grass tile is worth one point, so the more tiles you trap inside your pen, the higher your score.

Every puzzle gives you a fixed number of walls to place (as seen at the bottom left of the game). You don't have to use all of them, however most of the time you will want to.

Horse Movement

  • The horse moves up, down, left, and right, but never diagonally.
  • Walls and water tiles both block the horse's movement.
  • If any path exists from the horse to the edge of the grid, it escapes - you need to enclose it!
  • The horse's starting position is fixed for each puzzle.
Pro Tip: Tap the horse in-game to preview its reachable area. Tiles it can reach will be highlighted, making it easy to spot gaps in your fence.

Special Tiles

Some puzzles have bonus items on the grid. If they end up inside your enclosure, they affect your score:

Cherries — +3 each. A common bonus item. Try to include as many as possible inside your pen.
Golden Apples — +10 each. High value targets worth building your entire enclosure around.
Bee Swarms — -5 each. Avoid enclosing them if possible. Sometimes leaving them outside is worth sacrificing a few grass tiles.
Portals — the horse teleports between paired portals. If one portal is inside your pen and the other is outside, the horse can escape.

Not every puzzle has special tiles. Many daily puzzles use only grass and water, keeping the focus on pure wall-placement strategy.

Scoring Strategy

Your score is the total number of enclosed grass tiles plus any bonus items inside your pen. Here are a few tips to improve your scores:

  • Use water as part of your enclosure. Water blocks the horse just like walls, so any water adjacent to your enclosure saves you a wall.
  • The horse cannot move diagonally, this is where people lose easy points! Often you can place a wall one extra tile away for one more point.
  • Think big. A larger enclosure with the same number of walls always scores higher than a smaller one. Look for efficient shapes.
  • Sometimes skipping a special tile is worth it. If reaching a cherry costs three extra walls, those walls might enclose more than three grass tiles elsewhere.
Not sure if you've found the best solution? Open Settings from the menu and turn on Easy Mode. This adds a check button that shows your medal tier (gold, silver, or bronze) before you submit, so you can keep improving your walls without wasting your one attempt. Once used, easy mode locks for the day and your score goes on a separate leaderboard.
